Protea Place: Helping Keep Disadvantaged Women Safe

Taylor’s Removals & Storage are always ready and happy to help and support local charities and businesses. Our community connection is one of the most precious parts of living in our region. Protea Place are a Non-profit organisation that aims to support and welcome disadvantaged women who find themselves homeless or in vulnerable situations.

Taylor’s Removals & Storage recently helped Protea move a family into their new home and we were overjoyed to be of assistance and help such a noble cause.

Protea Place is a much-needed charity which provides a safe space for women to connect to practical support and receive holistic care under one roof. Everyone deserves to have their basic needs met: a shower, a place to wash your clothes, a hot meal, as well as, the ability to access necessities such as toiletries, clothes and hygiene products.

However, more importantly it provides them with the basic human need for connection in a safe space, something that is invaluable for those coming from histories of abuse and violence.

Protea describes their program as: “A place of safety, dignity, and acceptance that will empower women to rebuild and transform their lives. A home-like drop-in centre where women are encouraged to self-determine through connection and support.”

Domestic violence is one of the leading causes of homelessness among women. Many flee abusive relationships out of fear and this fear is not unfounded. Approximately one woman per week is murdered in their home by a significant other.

The presence of COVID-19 has also worsened this issue and safe housing such as that provided by Protea Place is a haven for women and children suffering from abuse. The integral values of integrity, respect, community, safety, dignity and much more put the minds of women at rest. Services such as these are invaluable. We should open our hearts to those in our community who are not as fortunate as often as we can, which is why the Protea Place program is one that Melissa and Taylor’s Removals & Storage hold dear.
